Welcome to Los Barriles, Baja California Sur — a hidden gem winter wind destination and home to our Baja Off The Hook Experience! Now in its 6th year running, this is our longest-standing experience, and over that time it has become a true cornerstone of the Off The Hook season. Set along the shores of the Sea of Cortez, Los Barriles is known for its warm sunshine, steady seasonal winds, and miles of open sandy coastline that have made it a favorite escape for kiteboarders, wing foilers, and windsurfers from around the world. When the “El Norte” winds arrive, the Sea of Cortez comes alive with rolling swell and endless opportunities to ride, explore the coastline, and if you’re lucky, see some incredible marine life!
Because we’ve been coming here year after year, trip guide Jesse McCourt is deeply established in town and has built strong local connections that make a huge difference in the experience. He knows the rhythms of the wind, the best launch spots for each condition, and exactly how to take advantage of every day to maximize time on the water.

Wind and riding conditions in Los Barriles
When the West Coast wind season begins to wind down, Baja is just getting started. The Los Barriles season runs from roughly November through March, making it the perfect winter continuation for riders looking to trade cooler weather at home for sunshine, warm water, and consistent wind on the Sea of Cortez.
Throughout the season, steady northerly winds typically blow in the high teens to low 20-knot range, with stronger El Norte events bringing days of 25+ knots. Early in the season, water temperatures can still be in the high 70s, while daytime air temperatures generally sit in the mid-70s to low 80s — a pretty incredible combination for a winter wind trip.
What really sets Los Barriles apart from other popular wind destinations is the swell. Conditions can range from light chop to long, rolling swell, creating a playground for kiteboarders and wing foilers looking to progress their riding. The swell offers plenty of opportunity to work on turns, transitions, jumps, foil control, and wave riding without the intensity of a traditional breaking surf environment. It makes Los Barriles an incredibly fun and approachable place to push your skills and try something new.
And getting on the water couldn't be easier. Our primary launch is directly in front of the hotel, with a wide-open sandy beach and plenty of room to rig, launch, and land. When the wind comes up, your gear is right there and the Sea of Cortez is just steps away.

Your home for the week is Playa del Sol, located directly on the beach in Los Barriles. Step outside your room and you're just moments from our primary launch, with the pool, beach, and town all close by.
PRIVATE AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION
We'll coordinate your arrival and departure transportation between the airport and Los Barriles, so there's no need to rent a car or figure out how to transport all that gear.
DUOTONE DEMO GEAR
Get the opportunity to ride a selection of the latest 2026/27 Duotone kites, wings, boards, and foil gear throughout the week. Bring your complete personal setup to ensure your riding time, then mix it up and try some of the newest equipment from Duotone.
COACHING & ON-WATER SUPPORT
From choosing the right gear and launch location to keeping an eye on riders and changing conditions, Jesse will be there throughout the week to help keep everyone safe, progressing, and having fun. Coaching and riding tips are available along the way, with additional private instruction available through our local partners when needed.
WELCOME & FAREWELL DINNERS
We'll kick off the Experience with a welcome dinner and finish the week together with a farewell dinner — two great nights to bring the group together and enjoy some of what Baja has to offer off the water.
NO-WIND ADVENTURES
No wind doesn't mean a day off. We'll have access to Duotone Electric foil setups along with plenty of other activities and adventures to keep us on the water, exploring Baja, and having fun when the wind decides to take a break.

GETTING TO BAJA & YOUR AIRPORT SHUTTLE
Getting to Los Barriles is easy. All guests will fly into Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) in San José del Cabo, the main airport serving southern Baja California Sur. From SJD, Los Barriles is only about a one-hour drive along a paved highway.
Your Baja Experience starts when you land. Private airport transportation to and from SJD is included, so there’s no need to rent a car, navigate unfamiliar roads, or figure out how to squeeze all of your kite and foil gear into a rental vehicle.
We’ll coordinate everyone’s flight information before the trip so transportation is ready to meet the group at the airport. Our shuttle has plenty of room for riders, luggage, and all the oversized gear that comes along with a week on the water. From there, sit back, relax, and enjoy the drive through Baja as we make our way to Playa del Sol in Los Barriles.
At the end of the week, we’ll coordinate the return trip as well, getting you and your gear back to SJD with plenty of time for your flight home.

Hotel Playa Del Sol
For the week, we’ll call Playa del Sol home — a beachfront hotel located right in the heart of Los Barriles and just steps from the Sea of Cortez. More importantly for us, our primary kite and wing launch is directly in front of the hotel, making getting on and off the water about as easy as it gets.
Wake up, check the conditions from the hotel, grab some breakfast, and when the wind starts to fill in, your gear and the beach are right there. There’s no need to load everything into a vehicle or spend part of the day driving back and forth to a launch. When it’s time to ride, we walk out the door and go.
Each guest will have their own private poolside ocean-view room, with the option of a single king or two double beds. If you'd like to bring a friend, partner, or family member along for the Experience, you're welcome to share your room with them. Trip rates will vary depending on the number of guests participating and room occupancy, so we’ll work with you to determine the best option for your group.

Throughout the week, guests will have access to a selection of 2026/27 Duotone kites, wings, boards, and foil gear to demo in the incredible conditions of the Sea of Cortez.
Whether you're looking to try a different kite, test out a new wing, experiment with a foil setup, or simply see how the latest Duotone equipment performs, you'll have plenty of opportunities to mix things up throughout the week. The demo fleet is also there to help fill the gaps in your personal quiver, so you don't need to own or travel with every possible size. If the conditions call for a kite, wing, board, or foil you didn't bring, we'll have additional options available to help get you on the water. Jesse will be there to help with gear selection and setup based on the day's conditions and your riding style. There's no need to go out and buy a new kite or wing just for the trip.
While Duotone demo equipment is provided as part of the Experience, every guest is required to bring their own complete riding setup to ensure they can get on the water regardless of demo gear availability. Demo equipment will be shared among the group and is intended to complement, not replace, your personal gear.

As much as we love the wind, Mother Nature doesn't always follow the itinerary — and that's part of the adventure. If Baja gives us a no-wind day, we're not sitting around waiting for tomorrow. Los Barriles and the surrounding area give us plenty of ways to keep exploring, playing, and getting on the water.
We'll have Duotone Electric foil setups available, giving riders the chance to experience foiling in a completely different way when the Sea of Cortez goes glassy. Calm mornings and no-wind days can create some incredible conditions for cruising the coastline, working on foil skills, or simply getting out and exploring on the water.
And Baja has plenty to offer beyond wind sports. Depending on the conditions and what the group is up for, a no-wind day could mean hiking into the surrounding desert and mountains, exploring nearby towns and beaches, mountain biking, fishing, or heading out on another spontaneous Baja adventure.
That's also why we don't build this trip around a rigid itinerary. We follow the conditions. If it's windy, we ride. If it's glassy, we foil. And if Baja gives us something completely different, we go find an adventure.
