Trip Information
Los Barriles, Baja California
december 12-19, 2025 sold out
&
January 5-12, 2026, spots available!
Los Barriles is a vibrant seaside town located about an hour north of San José del Cabo. While it’s famous for world-class fishing in the summer, it truly comes alive in the winter with steady wind and ideal conditions for kiteboarding, wing foiling, and windsurfing.
This charming town offers just the right balance: plenty of great food, fun, and amenities—without the crowds and chaos of Cabo. It’s a laid-back spot with a strong sense of community and an even stronger breeze.
Your trip will be hosted by Jesse McCourt, who has spent the past six winters exploring and riding in Baja. Los Barriles has become a second home for him, and we’re confident you’ll fall for it too—just like so many other riders who return year after year.
Due to popular demand, we’ve extended the trip to a full week so guests can enjoy a full weekend of wind and relaxation upon arrival, and have a smoother transition back home. This extra day gives you more time on the water, more time to explore, and more time to soak in everything Baja has to offer.
Take a look at the trip details below to see what’s included. If you have any questions before booking, don’t hesitate to reach out: (562) 248-6996.

General weather in Los Barriles during December is fantastic—expect warm mornings and afternoons with temperatures ranging from the high 70s to low 90s (°F). Evenings can get a bit chilly, dropping into the high 50s, so plan for board shorts and a t-shirt during the day, and pants with a jacket for nighttime.
The wind season in Los Barriles runs from November through February, with average speeds between 15–25 mph. Some days can bring stronger gusts exceeding 30 mph. The wind typically comes from the north, creating ideal side-shore conditions for riding.
Water temperatures range from the high 60s to mid-70s early in the season, cooling to the low-to-high 60s later on. The wide sandy beach offers a riding area with moderate to high chop. When the wind blows for several days straight, a fun beach break develops on the north side—perfect for strapless surf riding.
Your trip leader, Jesse McCourt, leverages his six winters of local experience to guide the group each day. Prior to the trip, he’ll be sending regular weather updates to help you pack the right gear and prepare for the conditions. Riding Conditions: Kite, Wing & Downwinders
Los Barriles offers dynamic riding conditions that cater to a wide range of skill levels and disciplines. Depending on how long the wind has been blowing from the north, you’ll experience everything from moderate chop to large, rolling swell.
For kiteboarders, these rolling swells create the perfect playground—ideal for jumping, carving, or learning to ride swell in a safe and controlled environment. The waves do not break, making it an excellent spot for riders looking to build confidence without the challenges of traditional surf conditions.
For wing foilers, this same swell becomes a dream scenario for downwind riding. If you’re exploring or getting into parawinging, you’ll love the long, smooth glides and the opportunity to improve your downwind technique.
As a group, we’ll also have the option to coordinate with our partner school, Buena Vista Kiteboarding, to organize a 14-mile downwinder shuttle. This unforgettable ride takes you along the stunning East Cape, offering a unique way to explore the coastline while enjoying the thrill of a steady push from the wind and swell.
