Today was supposed to be part of the international Duotone beach clean up. We were planning on hosting the beach clean in Belmont to kick off the Belmont Shore Demo that would have been this weekend. Due to our current world situation this put a damper on getting a group of us together to clean our beaches. We may not be able to gather, but we can still put forward an effort to clean our beaches! This morning I went out to my home beach and swept the shoreline for trash. I swept down from tower 15 to the Huntington pier and only collected half a bag of trash! I'm proud of HB and our ability to keep our beaches so clean! When we are able to get back out there we should all make an effort to put a trash bag and gloves in our kite bags. Do your part and take responsibility of the beaches you use by keeping them clean! We will be keeping trash bags and gloves at the tent all summer for anyone who wants to do a little tidying before their session. Enjoy today's video and happy kiting! In today's vlog I give new riders tips for getting into kite foiling in Long Beach. I talk about what gear beginners should look for and basic tips for riding. Enjoy and happy kiting! Yesterday I woke up with a travel bug inside me. With no wind in the forecast here in Huntington I decided to head North up the coast. With kite equipment loaded up I began my search for wind. I was prepared to go as far as San Francisco if I needed to. Luckily I found some very strong wind just at the beginning of the central coast at a spot that I have wanted to ride for a while. Jalama Beach is a part of a small campground right on the coast line. It provides amazing views with strong wind and great waves. I was beyond excited when I pulled up seeing two kiters already out on 6M kites. Fired up and ready to go I hit the water with my 7m Neo and 5'9 Pro Wam. It was pretty gusty conditions, but I couldn't help but have a blast on the water. Nearing the end of my session I could feel the wind increasing significantly. The gusts and lulls were very intense, with spikes to 44 mph and then dropping to 14 mph. Coming off the water I could barley walk my kite up the beach. Fully depowered and bar all the way out I kept getting picked up of the shore. I decided to just take a seat on the sand and wait until a fellow kiter could give me a land. It has been a while since I've played around with wind that strong, but it was totally worth the drive. Today's vlog is a fun recap of my drive and session in Jalama. Hope you enjoy and happy kiting! With the current shut down of beginner kite spots wave riding spots are seeing an influx of intermediate riders. To help these new riders I discusses proper wave riding etiquette and wave riding rules. Over the course of quarantine I've had time to catch up on my reading. A particular book was recommended to me last August called Stealing Fire by Steven Kotler and Jamie Wheal. The book's overall topic is about the flow state created by ecstasis or a higher sense of self. Steven and Jamie discuss this higher perception of self and how we can tap into it with technology, psychology, pharmacology, and neurobiology. Through out the book kiteboarding is mentioned several times in how it produces moments of ecstasis. In today's video I wanted to dive deeper into how kiteboarding contributes to creating ecstasis through its four forces Selflessness, Timelessness, Effortlessness, and Richness. Enjoy and happy kiting everyone! This talented young athlete is dominating the freestyle world tour, and has now began to compete in the strapless division as well! Get to know how she balances here training between two disciplines at such an elite level. Also get a peak into how she is handling the current situation with quarantine and how she's continuing her training. Enjoy and happy kiting! |
